I received an email Easter greeting this mornng that said “See you on the other side of the tomb”. If you were at Holy Angels on Sunday you saw the beautiful picture of the huge stone rolling in front of Jersus’ tomb. When that stone is removed the tomb will be empty and Jesus will have arisen . It will be Easter Sunday.
See you on the other side of the tomb!

How do Catholics greet each other on Palm Sunday? Should we say “Happy Palm Sunday”. But Palm Sunday is both a happy day and a sad day for us. We have two gospels at Mass. One tells how excited the people were to greet Jesus’ entry in Jerusalem. The other longer one tell how Jesus suffered and died on the cross. It may seem strange to say “Sad Palm Sunday”. Maybe the best thing to say is ” Good Palm Sunday”, just like Good Friday.
It was good to see so many of you at Mass today to Jesse and Gino for the beautiful decorations and to Angela for seeing that the Masses went smoothly.
Have a GOOD HOLY WEEK!

If you have been coming to Mass at Holy Angels during Lent you know that the title of this particular blog is also the theme of our Lenten preaching. To Catholic people the term ” The Cross” means the difficulties that come into every life. These difficulties are not punishments from God. They are situations such as a severe illness, the unexpected death of a person we love, the collapse of a marrage, or your own deafness. When we talk about accepting our cross, we mean that we accept the help that Jesus gives in our daily lives.
Please watch this site between now and Easter Sunday. We will have much to say about “The Cross”. And we are interested in learning about your experiences of The Cross too. Please remember that this is a public site. Your comments can be read by anyone in the world who has access to a computer.

I learned of Ruth Jones’ passing in the recent e-newsletter from Holy Angels and was immediately shocked. Fr. Brian Doran asked me to write a guest blog about her on this website.
With the little time I have known her, during my time at Holy Angels in 2006 and 2007, I developed a soft spot for Ruth Jones. Each Sunday morning, before Mass, I would see Ruth arrive in a taxi, and she would often be wearing her famous green coat. On my last day of working at Holy Angels, I saw Ruth standing out on the sidewalk waiting for her taxi to fetch her. As usual, she had her green coat on. I went up to her to say good bye before I left the U.S. for Australia. Little did I know this would be the last time I saw her.
As Bob Tortora once told me last year, that Ruth is “an elegant lady” and that she was special to him and many others. that is so true. When I heard the news about Ruth’s passing, I immediately emailed Bob as I knew he would have known and I wanted to share the shock and sadness of the moment with him. But, really, why would we be sad or shocked at such a beautiful life lived right up to the end? Ruth clearly was a woman of great faith. Her soul will be shining bright forever and forever.
Ruth, God Speed and God Be with you, always.
Love from James (Australia)

Ruth Jones left behind many wonderful family members and friends. She left behind 30 years of great memories for the Catholic Deaf Community in Los Angeles. We were happily surprised last week to find out that Ruth had put together many albums through the year with information and photos of our Community. Some of you reading this blog are in the those albums. We have asked Betty Jean Brandt to help us plan a way to share all this wonderful information with you.
Also I want you to know that on March 9th both Masses at HAC will be Memorial Masses for Ruth. As you can see we are not yet ready to let go of this wonderful woman. And we are in no hurry to do so.
